Introducing Bait Man Films...
In August 2005, Melinda Bateman founded Bait Man Films on the premise that anyone can invest in a film unlimited to the exclusivity of wealthy venture capitalist, the stock market, or Hollywood movie production studios. Instead, Bait Man Films wanted to build a model extending an offer to partner in film with everyday people. In 2006, the company hosted a Screenplay Competition called "The Investor's Screenplay Competition" which awarded $1,000 cash, and produced a movie trailer for the winning screenwriter. The winner was Alberto Veloso of Miami, Florida with his screenplay entitled "the Swap". The movie trailer was a resource to promote the screenplay to investors. Indeed it did. The trailer was released in May 2007, Bait Man Films met with investors in Atlanta, Georgia. However, the film's budget was too risky for the group of investors. Melinda Bateman decided to write a low budget film with an intricate engrossing story, but of minimal financial risk and liability called "The Enemy and the Victim". Upon completion, Ms. Bateman decided to produce/direct the film as well.
In August 2008, Bait Man Films decided to take the script to the next level, and in Washington, D.C., principle photography began. "The Enemy and Victim" is a suspense drama about a college professor, Mercedes Key River, who loses her faith in God after her mother's unexpected death. Although Mercedes is extremely successful, especially considering her age, and she is married to the love of her life, she refuses to give honor to God. Mercedes is ultimately tested when her ex- fiancé returns to manipulate her using witchcraft. Will Mercedes survive the enemy? "The Enemy and the Victim" is in post-production with the editor, and it soon will be presented to Washington, D.C. and the film festival circuit.
